# Quote the Part That Matters: Octomind 0.57.0 Answers Replies Point by Point

> Octomind 0.57.0 quotes an earlier reply into your next prompt so you can answer it point by point. Plus verification, vision, and long-session fixes.

The agent gives you a plan. Most of it looks right, but the migration needs work and you don't want it touching authentication. Now you have to explain which parts of its own answer you're talking about.

**Octomind 0.57.0 quotes those parts straight into your next prompt.** Pick a reply, or a single line from one, and answer underneath it. This post covers 0.57.0 and the 0.56.1 fixes since [our last update](/blog/chatgpt-plus-api) on October 6. It's out for the open-source AI coding CLI today and [coming soon to Octomind Cloud](#coming-soon-to-octomind-cloud).

## Answer a reply without copying it around

`/reply` starts your next prompt with the latest assistant reply as a markdown quote. Keep the lines you want to answer, delete the rest, and write underneath. Nothing gets sent until you submit it.

For example, your prompt might look like this:

```text
> Add a migration for the new account settings.
Make this reversible. Existing accounts should keep their current defaults.
> Refactor the authentication middleware.
Leave authentication alone for this release.
```

That's a much clearer follow-up than “yes, but change the first part and skip the last one.” The agent gets the exact text you're responding to alongside your instructions.

You aren't limited to its last answer:

```text
/reply
/reply 2
/reply parser fix
```

`/reply 2` quotes the reply before the latest. `/reply parser fix` finds the newest reply containing both words, regardless of case or order. Only assistant prose is quoted, including text from messages that also called tools. Tool calls and their output stay out.

### Pick by content, not by number

Press Tab after `/reply ` to browse earlier replies. Each entry shows its age, line count, and opening text. Type words to filter by content, or digits to filter by reply number. Choose one, then press Enter to load the quote.

If you only need a sentence, type `>` at the start of a prompt line. A menu lets you choose individual lines from earlier replies. Type to narrow the list, press Enter to insert a line, then do it again for the next one.

One detail to remember: while that menu has matches, Enter selects a line rather than sending your message. Esc closes the menu. And `>` in the middle of a line, like `a > b`, stays ordinary text.

This prompt-prefilling behavior belongs to the interactive CLI. ACP and WebSocket clients get the quote back as data; Octomind doesn't fill their editor's input. The [session commands reference](/docs/reference/02-session-commands#reply-nwords) covers the full behavior.

## The checks behind the answer

### Verification checks every hand-back

With supervision and its verify gate enabled, 0.57.0 checks every stop of a user-owned turn. That includes an explicit “done,” a hand-back, and a turn that ends without a status claim. Verification shouldn't depend on the agent choosing the right word before it stops.

The gate now also respects the supervisor's master switch. If you turn supervision off, the verify gate stays off too.

0.56.1 tightened loop detection along the way. Repeated guessed-write attempts and reworded versions of the same tool call no longer count as progress. Guidance for waiting on background jobs was clarified as well, so waiting for a result isn't treated like doing the same failed action again.

## Images, long sessions, and the smaller fixes

- **Images returned by MCP tools are preserved.** When an MCP tool returns an image, it shouldn't disappear before the model can use it.
- **Non-vision models don't receive image inputs.** Octomind strips images for models that can't read them. That keeps the request compatible; it doesn't make those models understand the missing image.
- **Requests survive background [context compaction](/blog/octomind-0-42-1-release).**
- **Static MCP capability grants cover more tools.**
- **Markdown is buffered before printing.**

There are dependency updates, test improvements, and refreshed installation guidance in this range too. The [changelog](https://github.com/muvon/octomind/blob/0.57.0/CHANGELOG.md) lists every entry from 0.56.1 through 0.57.0.

## Coming soon to Octomind Cloud

Octomind 0.57.0 is coming to [Octomind Cloud](/cloud). As with every release, cloud machines pick up the new version the next time they start, with nothing to set up. Until then, everything in this post works today in the open-source AI CLI.

## Update to Octomind 0.57.0

```bash
curl -fsSL https://octomind.run/install.sh | bash -s -- --version 0.57.0
octomind --version
```

Your config upgrades itself on first run. See the [installation guide](/docs/usage/01-installation) for other platforms and methods, and the [full changelog](https://github.com/muvon/octomind/blob/0.57.0/CHANGELOG.md) for every change since 0.56.0.

Then try it: next time an answer is mostly right, `/reply`, delete the parts you agree with, and put your correction under the one line you don't. You shouldn't have to rewrite the agent's answer just to tell it what to change.
